Bloody Terrorists

So now the German Christmas markets are being targeted. The loveliest and most heart-warming tradition I've ever experienced has been tarnished in a deliberate bid to incite outrage, in a country already ill at ease.
There may not be a war on Islam, but a certain faction of Islam is pulling all the stops to bring it about. An unreformed doctrine from the dark ages, intolerant of the slightest concession to modernity is baiting a (reasonably) resentful population.

If a secular European is thick headed and easy to manipulate, he will vote for UKIP, Front Nationale or AFD.
If a Muslim is thick headed and easy to manipulate, he will be talked into ramming vehicles into innocent crowds to please a vindictive and insane deity.

Ecce homo.

I suppose that from now, a common feature of the Christmas Market will be the sight of fully armed patrols at every turn and concrete barriers around the perimeters. A night out with the kids in the local square will be shadowed with suspense. The hoops that genuine delivery drivers will have to jump through will be as disruptive as airport security.

Moreover, the sight of a Lorry is now as ominous as that of the passenger airplane. Thus have the Wahhabi extremists rendered something relatively innocuous a thing of horror.

What next? paper clips?

The citation of traffic accident statistics against deaths by Islamic terrorism do not offer me, nor anyone else, the slightest comfort. A road accident, though unfortunate, happens not of anyone's will. It is exactly that: an accident. I can avoid an accident by being careful as I drive down the road or walk across it. Comparing this death with that is disingenuous. The fear factor is not borne of frequency.

A terror attack is deliberately inflicted. The death dealer comes at me with purpose. No amount of care taken can avoid the harm that is intended. Being safely on the pavement is no good when the man behind the wheel is out to run me over.

The best I can do is lock myself away from the outside world. This would also be of little use if the terrorists take up home invasion as a tactic.
